Recent Testimonials from Nebraska Families Served

I found Neptune Cremation in Omaha on a weekday evening through a google search. I contacted them through an online form not expecting to hear from them until the next business day. To my surprise, Corey contacted me within 10 minutes. He listened and was very attentive to meeting the needs of our family even before our loved one passed away. After our loved one passed, he continued to communicate with us and helped us through each stage of the cremation experience. I recommend Neptune Cremation to any family in need of direct cremation services.

Neptune Cremation Services was a great help in arranging everything needed as my mother moved from ICU to hospice with very little time left to live. They had a short checklist, completed with my help, to ensure everything was ready and allowed me to get back to my mother’s bedside quickly. When she passed, Corey Starr, the services manager, ensured that I had peace of mind that everything would be handled competently and kindly. Thank you for all you do!

I do not usually write reviews but I like Kristi’s way she presented the whole cremation service and was not pushy or quick to get things done. She came back twice to answer questions when I told her I would rather talk in person. I was very satisfied with her and she said to call anytime if I have a question. Thank you, Kristi, Dennis H.

Super! I spoke to the representatives a few years ago and wasn’t able to obtain their service. A few years later they contacted me to tell me that the price was going to increase and they wanted to see if I wanted to get the service before the price increase. I was then able to obtain their services. So far they have delivered on their promises and have answered all my questions. I feel better knowing that my needs are taken care of so my children will have a smooth transition after my passing. Their contracts and arrangements were easy to read and understand and I am able to tell my survivors exactly what to expect. As a veteran who has always had to make final arrangements as part of my job and profession, it was nice to have Neptune there to make the planning go smooth. To have this off my bucket list of things that need to be taken care of is a blessing. Neptune made it easy!!! Great work!

I wasn’t directly involved in the arrangements after my father passed, but I was touched by the care and attention that Corey gave my family. It’s been almost a year since I was there but I have recommended Neptune to all of my friends since then.

In my grief, I didn’t know what to do about Mom. A funeral home was going to take care of her, but after sitting down with their stuffy representative and seeing what they were going to charge for a simple cremation (Mom did not want a service), my heart was broken. They had hidden fees and made me feel small because I didn’t have endless funds. I called Neptune to see what my alternatives were. Corey was kind and respectful and gave me a chance to do everything Mom wanted without breaking my bank account. He walked me through the whole process and didn’t push for upgrades and additions. Neptune has my complete recommendation.

Respectful and compassionate. Corey made the whole process move along smoothly and really gave me time to spend with my family after Dad died. I will recommend them to all of my friends.

Ponca State Park

Ponca State Park, just outside the town of Ponca in northeastern Nebraska, is at the eastern gateway of the Missouri National Recreational River, and gives visitors a glimpse of an untamed river. The scenic, dense woodlands, rolling hills and prairie ridges, where explorers Lewis and Clark passed through on their epic journey up the Missouri, come alive with songbirds and flowers in the spring. It is a beautiful place to scatter your loves one’s ashes.

Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge

Fort Niobrara, near Valentine in North Central Nebraska, was established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 as a bird, bison and elk preserve. The rolling sandhills, limestone breaks and waterfalls along the Niobrara River canyon are home to a great variety of wildlife, including bald and golden eagles in the winter. The 19,000-acre refuge, which sustains a wide diversity of plants and wildlife, is also a place respite and reflection for humans, making it perfect for a scattering.

Indian Cave State Park

Indian Cave State Park in far southeast Nebraska is named for a sandstone “cave,” or geologic formation, holding prehistoric Native American petroglyphs. The park, on the wide and winding Missouri River, contains a hardwood forest that bursts into spectacular color in the fall. There are dozens of miles of scenic trails with Adirondack shelters, especially along the river. The park holds the 19th century town of St. Deroin, abandoned in 1920, which has been partially reconstructed for visitors. A memorable place for scattering your loved one’s ashes.

Scotts Bluff National Monument

Scotts Bluff National Monument, located in the city of Gering, in western Nebraska, towers above the North Platte River, and is rich with geological, paleontological and human history – it has served as a landmark for Native Americans and “gateway to the West” for emigrants on the Oregon, California and Mormon trails. Although the surrounding area has been transformed into farms and ranches, the main features of the historic landscape are still preserved.

Additional Notes on Scattering Cremated Remains in Nebraska

In Nebraska, there are no state laws controlling where you can keep or scatter ashes. Ashes may be stored in a crypt, niche, grave, or container at home. Cremation renders ashes harmless, so there is no public health risk involved in scattering ashes. Use common sense and refrain from scattering ashes in places where they would be obvious to others.

Nebraska Cremation FAQs

What happens when you can't afford funeral services in Nebraska?

Although state funeral and burial assistance is in decline, there are available resources. To qualify for the Nebraska Indigent Burial and Cremation program, the deceased must have no estate from which to pay for a funeral, no family who can afford a service, and be ineligible for assistance from the Social Security or Veterans administration. If these criteria are met, the Public Administrator, or Indigent Burial Officer of the state, pays for a direct cremation of the deceased (the least expensive method). This is why it’s so important to pre-plan.

What is state cremation rate?

Nebraska cremation rate is 51-60%, according to 2020 CANA Annual Report.

What veterans’ benefits are available in Nebraska?

The VA benefits provided (at no cost to the family) include a fixed amount toward funeral expenses; a grave site; opening and closing of the grave; perpetual grave site care; a government headstone or marker; a United States burial flag that can be draped over the casket or accompany the urn (and is given to the next of kin after the service); and an engraved presidential memorial certificate signed by the current President, expressing the country’s grateful recognition of the veteran’s service.

How many funeral homes are there in Nebraska?

There are 216 funeral homes in 161 cities of Nebraska.
